'Classy' group got along well with each other
Boothbay Region High School held its graduation at 2 p.m. on Friday at Porter Memorial Gymnasium.
Several students spoke during the ceremony, including Drew Blaney, Evelyn Smith and Andrew Reed.
The high school chorus sang "What I Did For Love."
Principal John H. Tourtillotte Jr. said 64 out of 65 students graduated. He described the class Monday as a group who got along with each other. What made this class special, he said, was that there were no cliques.
"The kids were tremendous. They were classy. There were no problems at Project Graduation," Tourtillotte said, noting that the class went to Boston for the night.
The senior class saw many successes during the school year. Tourtillotte said the class was strong in the arts, music and drama, reflecting on the school production of "Cats," which was led by the senior class.
The class was also strong in athletics and volunteered their time in various ways in the community. About 70 percent of the students are heading to post-secondary education.
"I think these kids have a bright future," Tourtillotte said. "You talk about the next generation. They are solid. They are going to make a strong mark in the world. They are going to be the kind of people you want standing with you in tough situations. They are hard workers. They will be successful in life."
